Your life as a Berkeley undergraduate begins with eight weeks of summer courses alongside your Global Edge cohort and other incoming Berkeley freshmen.
While on the Berkeley campus, you will explore campus resources, connect with your peers, and prepare for your time abroad through workshops and seminars specifically designed for Global Edge students.
Where You Will Live
UC Berkeley Student Housing
You will have the option of living in Blackwell Hall or your own accommodations during the summer.
Blackwell offers double-occupancy rooms, in a secure large housing complex conveniently located just one block from campus. The entire building is equipped with wireless internet and amenities include central bathrooms and lounges on every floor, an Academic Center, Fitness Center, and a main lounge with comfortable furnishings for relaxing. Live-in Residential Life staff will also provide community development activities and social programs.

Meals
Residence hall dining is offered at the Cafe 3 dining facility featuring all-you-care-to-eat meals with a wide variety of cuisines. The meal points provided with your Summer Sessions Housing meal plan may also be used to purchase a la carte food items at any open retail location on campus.
Orientation & Workshops
Upon arrival at UC Berkeley in the summer, students will attend an on-campus orientation. The on-campus orientation is an introduction to UC Berkeley and the Global Edge program. Orientation topics include academic advising, spring schedule planning, course registration, financial aid, and more. Throughout the summer, Global Edge staff will host mandatory workshops and seminars designed for Global Edge participants. A Pre-Departure Orientation will be hosted one month before departure to prepare students for the upcoming semester abroad.
Support
During the summer program in Berkeley, Summer Sessions & Study Abroad staff provides advising and support pre-departure. Live-in residential staff provides community development activities and social programs in the residence halls while the Student Learning Center(link is external) offers tutoring and academic support to Summer Sessions students.
Extracurriculars
Social activities will be held every Thursday evening in Blackwell Hall throughout the summer. You will also have access to the Recreational Sports Facility(link is external) as well as a transit pass(link is external) to ride local AC Transit buses free of charge, including Transbay buses to San Francisco.
